Associated TP25: Effects of nutrition on epidermolysis bullosa acquisita
Epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA) is a chronic, relapsing autoimmune skin blistering disease caused by autoantibodies against collagen VII and characterized by subepidermal blisters. In recent years it was shown, that the gut microbiota modulates immune responses beyond the intestinal tract. The effects can be pro- and anti-inflammatory and depend on the composition of the gut microbiota. Nutrition has a major impact on gut microbiota composition and activity.
Until now, the impact of nutrition and the gut microbiota on autoimmune blistering skin diseases is unknown. Therefore, we set out to investigate the effect of nutrition on the disease progression of EBA in this project.
